Efficacy of a Biblically Based Behavior Intervention on Young Adults' Attitudes Toward Fighting: A Pretest Posttest Design

A quantitative research study by Virginia Rebecca Sherman, Doctoral Candidate, Department of Community Care and Counseling, Liberty University.

The purpose of the study is to measure the effectiveness of a Scripture-based intervention on attitudes about fighting in young adults who self-report aggressive behavior.

Online research study for eligible young adults

Estimated time: approximately one hour total.

Study format: online assessments, a questionnaire, and a 10-minute Scripture-based film.

Compensation: eligible completers receive a $10 gift card after completion is verified.

Who May Be Eligible

To continue to participant registration, a visitor must answer yes to each prequalification question.

Ages 19-26

Participants must be between 19 and 26 years of age.

Baltimore high school

Participants must have attended high school in Baltimore, Maryland.

Self-reported aggression

Participants must self-report experiences with anger, hostility, and aggression.

Research Study

What Participation Involves

If eligible and consented, participants complete online study activities connected by a private participant pseudonym.

Complete online assessments and a questionnaire

The first activities include study measures and demographic questions.

Watch a Scripture-based film

The intervention is a 10-minute video embedded on the study site.

Complete follow-up study activities

Participants complete a Post-Viewing Questionnaire and Reflection Questionnaire, then repeat the online assessment.

Participant Protections

Taking part in this research project is voluntary. Participants may choose not to participate, and the study records will be kept private. Research responses are connected to a participant pseudonym such as P1 or P2.

The expected risks are minimal and may include feelings of past regret or shame. Questions about the study or participant rights can be directed to the researcher, faculty sponsor, or Liberty University IRB.

Pseudonym-based study records

After eligibility, participants create a login and are assigned a participant pseudonym. Study data collected going forward uses that pseudonym where possible.

Voluntary participation: Participants can stop participating at any time.
